Y2K
gets its chips
PCI processor from Evergreen
Technologies is a millennium bug buster. Not only does the processor upgrade
cure the Y2K problems it also greatly improves the performance of older
Pentium-based PCs.
Y2K
comes early
Analysts have calculated
that 60% of all millennium-related failures will occur during 1999 and only
30% will occur in 2000 (including January 1st). Most of the failures are
likely to be date roll-over errors. Some may never be detected whilst the
majority should occur in the first half of 1999.
Euro
in with a bang
Another set of analysts
have concluded that the introduction of the Euro will have a bigger impact
than was initially predicted. This will all be worsened by the users allocating
insufficient funds. Large corporates will discover that Europe will want
the supply-chain to be Euro-ready and this will come down on the smaller
businesses as a shock.
Halifax
caught by bug
Wanting to warn it customers
of the dangers of the millennium bug Halifax sent out letters to insurance
holders telling them they could not claim if the bug struck. Unfortunately
the letter read: The policy schedule for next year runs from 1 January 1999
to 1 January 1900". I assume that it was a programming error rather
than a blind proof reader! |
