Intel start to go late

Merced Chip delayed by six months to mid-2000. Should not be a major problem as MS will not have a 64-bit OS ready anyway.

Katmai (450-500) MHz) and Tanner (500 MHz) still expected in 99Q1

Lotus not so dynamic

Search engines cannot be used against dynamic page building systems. The Lotus/Domino product has exposed this embarrassment.

Borg Off ! !

Cranfield University have built a Linux-based networked 16 x 300MHz Pentium II 192MB supercomputer to replace the decommissioned Cray JP16. They have named it Borg. The network is configured similarly to the "Beowolf" system for parallel processing pioneered by NASA in the early 90's.

Microsoft prices up

MS increases prices by imposing a minimum order quantity on corporate purchases. Customers must buy 100 units or more to get previous discount levels: MS Word = 1 unit, MS Office = 2 units.

This is called "leveraging" your position.
