XML
moves towards EDI
Although still quite
new, there is a set of XML specifications for conducting EDI over pubic
networks. The initial uses for the new XML specifications will include procurement
and requisition processes. Although lightweight it should cover all that
is needed for the small users leaving the heavy-duty ANSI standard for the
big boys.
Linux
gets serious
Linux 2.2.0 kernel adds
enterprise-critical SMP scalable capabilities to the already highly configurable,
reliable operating system. The pricing is irresistable and the support is
ubiquitious, no wonder that more and more corporations are getting interested.
Despite its facilities it still shows its open-source pedigree. The installation
requires UNIX skills, formal technical support is still evolving, systems
management is basic and few SMP capable applications. It is however getting
serious and should not be ignored.
