E-Business
management nightmare
E-Business tools are
failing customers by falling short of required mark for managing applications
and services. Ovum Analysts are finding that businesses are needing better
and more management tools to ensure the required levels of service - currently
it can be a bit of a nightmare.
Future
storage goes 3-D
Storage devices enter
the realms of science fiction with holographic devices able to store
around 125GB on a 5.25" removable device. Bell Labs (research arm of
Lucent Technologies) are working on this device with data storage specialist
Imation. The device does not rely on mechanical movement of heads, it uses
laser beams in three dimension. No date been set for the first products.
Front
Office needs a strong Back
Back-office infrastructure
is key to e-business. Industry experts have said that most e-business projects
will fail because of a lack of integration between back- and front-end systems.
By 2003 IT infrastructure operations will be more important to e-branding
than marketing
Shorties
- PictureTel abandon
ATM after only two years.
- E-Business will
quickly expose network design flaws.
- Intel admit problems
with its 820/840 chip sets.
- IBM's shark (Enterprise
Storage server) is suffering from teething problems with it's PCI interface.
All teeth and no bite!
- Windows 2000 will
ship with 3Com's Remote installation to make it easier. Does this mean
that somebody out there has had some problems.
- 3Com users are
revolting. All because they have bailed out of the high-end switches
arena.
- Oracle has reversed
part of its e-business strategy by allowing 3rd party ASPs to resell
its applications. Clearly Larry has been reincarnated after this last
"over my dead body" declaration.
